Subic Bay, P.I.

Tues. 1900

Dear Mother + Dad, and David,

Here's a short note to let you know I received your May 23 letter today. I found all of the paper clippings interesting and good reading. I am glad everyone enjoyed the slides and tape. You should have got another set by this time.

We left Hong Kong Sunday and arrived here in Subic Bay Monday evening about 1700. I am staying aboard tonight and thought I'd stay sober for once. Only kidding of course.

Tell David I will mail his radio tomorrow or the next day. I don't know how well it will work to pull in the stations he wants to hear but I am sure it will be okay. Let me know how it works.

Thursday afternoon, Memorial Day, we have early liberty. There is suppose to be a Weapons department party for us. I also plan to see about your radio and go into town and take some movies.

We are moored alongside a tender which is anchored here in the bay. In order to go ashore you have to take a boat. This is a little inconvenient and not as good as being tied up to a pier. We are to leave Friday and head back to the Gulf for our usual operations.

David, I was really impressed by the picture you drew. You pictured it just right and have a good imagination. I have some coins to send you and will mail them in a few days. I think you are wise to hold off in going to camp this year. Wait till you make second or first-class then you can have more fun there.

I got a tape from Bill yesterday. His letters never say much but he sure had a lot to talk about on the tape. I'll send him one back tonight.

I hope I haven't discouraged your vacation plans any. Do what you want to, and I'm sure we all will be happy.

Mother, I'm glad to hear you got things straightened out with the school job. Things usually to turn out okay in the long run if you give them time.

Here are some stamps for Dad. I hope he has a place for them.

Well I must go for now. I'll be looking forward to getting your tape. So long.

Your son,

Mike
